For a perfect fishing vacation, look no further than Libby. Below, you’ll find information and maps of Libby, Montana’s prime fishing spots.
World Class Rainbow Trout Fishing
Possibly Montana’s best-kept secret, the Kootenai River offers exceptional trout fishing that any angler would envy. This incredible fishery is home to rainbows, cutthroats, bull trout, and the occasional brown trout, promising memorable fishing experiences. Rainbow trout, often ranging from 12-16 inches, are abundant, and there are also trophy fish exceeding 10 pounds, evidenced by numerous photos and broken lines.
Rainbow trout up to 33 pounds have been caught on this blue ribbon river, yet you might see one boat on its busiest day.
First-timers can either hire one of the local skilled guides and outfitters or, with a bit of research, plan their own trip. Public access is excellent, with boat ramps available from Libby Dam downstream to the end of River Road. However, note that there are no takeouts beyond the end of the road, and the impassable Kootenai Falls lies downstream.
